Sacagawea, also spelled Sakakawea or Sacajawea, born in the Lemhi River Valley, near present-day Salmon, IdahoMay circa 1788. She died December 20, 1812 or April 9, 1884, Kenel South Dakota or in Wyoming. She was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who, in her teens, helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition in achieving their chartered mission objectives by exploring the Louisiana Territory. Born in Vasa, Minn. on August 9, 1865. Taught school in Dakota Territory, worked railroad construction for the Great Northern Railway, and bonanza farming. Moved to Portland, Or.
